John Storey receives 2015 COPSS Presidents' Award
CSML Director John Storey was presented with the COPSS Presidents' Award at the Joint Statistical Meetings in Seattle on August 12, 2015. The Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies presents the COPSS Presidents' Award annually to a young member of the statistical community (41 years old or younger) in recognition of outstanding contributions to the profession of statistics. This award is often considered to be the most prestigious in the field of statistics. Storey's award citation read:
For transformative and groundbreaking research on the theory, methods, and applications of inference methods, particularly significance testing, applied to high-dimensional data analysis problems; for impactful development and application of statistics to modern biological and medical research; and for service to the field of statistics through interdisciplinary activities.
Princeton professor Jianqing Fan won the COPSS Presidents' Award in 2000. Princeton University now has two award winners, which is notable given the small number of statistics faculty members at the university.
